UW Debate Vlog — Panama WUDC 2025
The University of Waterloo Debate Society had the incredible opportunity of competing at the Panama World Universities Debating Championship 2025. Just as last time for Vietnam, we also filmed a vlog for it! It was an incredibly fun and enjoyable trip; enjoy the REALLY LONG but REALLY GREAT vlog/movie at this point! A note from Alex: Sorry that this came out late, it was a lot of footage and I couldn't find time during my school term to finish it, but I have edited it now in one sitting as soon as I could before the next term begins. Even though it may be slightly unpolished, I think this vlog features a lot of amazing moments of the debate community, especially within CUSID, and I'm super excited to share it with everyone at last. The debate community would benefit greatly from more recording and treasuring of its moments; I'm not even sure if I've seen other recordings of the break announcement or grand finals walkouts. Hopefully this vlog is a contribution to the community that highlights the value of recording these great times. The Liberals won the most seats at 160; as this fell short of the 170 seats needed for a majority in the House of Commons, they formed a 'coalition' government alongside the support of the New Democratic Party (NDP). On September 25, 2024, the Conservatives moved a motion of non-confidence against the Liberal government. If the motion had passed, then Trudeau would have been forced to dissolve parliament and call another snap election. Motion: TH, as the federal NDP, W vote non-confidence in Trudeau Winner: OO

Infoslide: In 1942, Dr. Chonky is an unemployed theoretical physicist and is offered a job developing a new category of atomic weapons (seemingly not prohibited by any treaty). Chonky has always been strongly opposed to weapons of mass destruction, but jobs are scarce and Chonky has a family to provide for. Chonky's spouse makes a very modest salary as a preschool teacher, and has no qualms about Chonky working on these new weapons. If Chonky does not take the job, they are told that Dr. Tairanosaur, someone without any reservations about the weapons research, will take the job and will likely move the development ahead more quickly.
